O-N-O-M-A-T-O-P-O-E-I-A

One of the few things that I can do relatively well is spell. You might not think it's much, but it means something to me. (Hahaha... Soy un perdedor...) I think there's a definite relationship between the ability to spell well and having somewhat anal characteristics. For example, when I'm writing something, I just can't stand to have any word misspelled in my writing. It absolutely drives me insane to know that a word is misspelled. I will fix that error, even if it kills me...

Anyways, I've participated in a spelling bee or two in my illustrious elementary school days... (I say those days were "illustrious," because my life right now is as dull as dirt.) All in all, I wouldn't say that these competitions were particularly good experiences...

The first spelling bee in which I had the pleasure of participating, I did pretty well. The top three spellers got some kind of trophy or ribbon or whatever... I got third place... You'd think I'd have something to show for my spelling ability, but I do not... What happened was that the two finalists couldn't knock each other out, so they were both crowned co-champions of the spelling bee. Because of the tie, the guy that was eliminated after me received second place honors, and I was technically third place. Yeah, yeah... Say what you will, but I like to think of myself as the bronze medalist of the Beatty Elementary School Spelling Bee. Haha...

The second spelling bee never really happened because I never got out of the pre-screening round. Naturally, I had kicked everyone's butt in my class... I got sent to participate in an informal, pre-screening spelling bee to determine who would represent our school at the county-wide spelling bee. The very first round, I freakin' misspell the word "vacuum," forgetting that the stinkin' word has two "U's." When I got back to my classmates, they made fun of me because I had misspelled the easiest word in the world... Quite naturally, I have never forgotten how to spell that cursed word "vacuum." Vacuums suck. Hahaha...

Now, to add another page to the story of Alex and his adventures in spelling...

Yesterday, at the 1st annual FiCB Spelling Bee, I did not fare well. I misspelled the word "onomatopoeia." Had it not been for the spelling bee, I would have really liked this word. The word "onomatopoeia" is an example of itself; "onomatopoeia" is an onomatopoeia! It's cool. Not to mention, the word contains a fragment of four vowels, "O-E-I-A." This could have seriously been my favorite word in the English language... But since I misspelled it, I hate it...

Life goes on... Sometimes it's hard to see the bright light at the end of the tunnel... But you have to get up and keep on moving...

Hahaha... I'm gonna shut up now...
